On Monday, August 1, 2005, PIP was warmly welcomed by David Drury and his staff at the stately Inn at Jim Thorpe to conduct an investigation.看 The group was immediately struck by the appearance of the hotel which, because it has painstakingly and lovingly been restored, recalls that high-flying era of gaslights and horse-drawn carriages, black diamonds and Victorian opulence.看 Built in the 1840's, it has provided comfort to some of the 19th century's most influential and colorful people. It is said General Grant, President Taft, Buffalo Bill, Thomas Edison, and John D. Rockefeller have all passed through its doors.

The Inn is located in the heart of the historic village of Jim Thorpe, PA, which offers a wide variety of activities, from mountain biking and whitewater rafting, to historic tours. The inn's rooms are elegantly furnished with handsome Victorian reproductions, and stunning period decor.看 Rooms 310 and 211, which Mr. Drury and staff describe as being the rooms in which guests and staff have experienced "the greatest number of paranormal phenomena," are no exception, which made finding a comfortable spot within the rooms to settle in for awhile in hopes of establishing contact with the "other side," both facile and pleasurable.看

Upon entering Room 211, the group admits that none of the members received any unusual impressions; however, because of the room's reputation, Diane and Kieran set their video camera up on the far side of the room, facing the entrance.

Conversely, the energy in Room 310 was "electric," convincing Diane, Curtis, and Todd to find a corner in which to perch and set video and audio equipment into operation.

Diane and Curtis both felt as if unseen hands were touching them and, as their stay progressed, images of otherworldly friends appeared and made their presence felt.看

Curtis stated that he felt the presence of a woman --possibly a nurse -- who stood by the bed.看 Diane suggested that, perhaps, the woman accompanied an employer who needed her to travel with him.看 It was then that Curtis said he could "see" someone in the bed, and felt that the nurse was admonishing both him and Diane for disturbing her patient. While standing in front of the wall which contains the entrance to the room, Curtis felt the energy of beings from the otherside; however, each time Diane approached, the energy receded into the wall, making it impossible for Diane to share the experience -- that is -- for the time being.

Shortly afterward, Diane felt that if she were to stand on that side of the room again, she, too, would be able to make contact.看 Her feelings proved accurate, as she soon felt an overwhelming presence standing to her left, which caused a cold, but not unpleasant sensation, to permeate the left side of her body. 看She and Curtis then both reacted to something white which moved to Diane's left.看 Diane then sensed the presence of a tall man, standing beside her.看

The presence was so strong, that Diane decided to return to her seat on the opposite side of the room, so she could "view the show."看 Vibrations emanating from the bathroom on that same side were particularly strong, as well.

Curtis asked if Diane knew if there had been a fire at the Inn.看 Diane did not know, and stated she had very little knowledge of the history of the Inn.看 Curtis said that he felt there had been a fire, as he had an impression of the ceiling "glowing" orange.看 Later, Kieran confirmed that he had been told by an employee of the Inn, while he explored the halls of the immaculate establishment, that there had, indeed, been a fire at the Inn.看

Curtis then walked into the bathroom, and looked into a mirror while asking to receive contact from anyone who might be present.看 It was then that he saw Diane's tall "friend," whom he described as having sideburns and "slicked-back" hair.

As Diane and Curtis sat in the room towards the end of their investigation看 (Todd had left some time earlier to explore the rest of the Inn with Kieran), they felt the room become more and more "crowded," and had the distinct impression that those on the other side were aware of the investigation and were clambering to make contact with the group's members.

Upon examining his video tape, Todd states that he does have one spot on the tape where the focus on the camera goes in and out.看 He further states that when Diane and Curtis walked by at different times, such movement produced the same result.看 So the question is, did something or someone pass in front of the camera to cause it to go out of focus?看

According to Todd in an email addressed to Diane,看 "The second recording that I sent you, was the one that I was least sure of.看 On the video, I could see you and Curtis on the screen talking to each other.看 I wasn't sure if, what I thought was an EVP, wasn't just you or Curtis."

"The first recording was the one that I had more confidence in.看 On the video you and Curtis were talking but at the time of the recording it seemed like there was a break in the conversation.看 To me it sounds like a female voice, maybe even a young female voice.看 If you listen to the recording, it would be the first voice that you hear.看 Followed by what I believe is you with a cough and then Curtis speaking.看 I also noticed that the sound of the voice seemed to have an echo to it as well . . .看 It's also harder when you tape off the TV.看 It seemed clearer off the video itself."

Upon re-examination of the audio tape, Diane could not help but agree with Todd's assessment of the first recording.

看Then there were three spots near the end of the tape where Todd possibly got some audio responses.看The sound, which is difficult to decipher, seems to be "distorted talking," as if the tape slows then speeds up again.看
看
While Todd was in room 310, and taking the equipment out of his bag, he felt a cold air across his wrist.看 That occurred by the wall where Curtis was sitting, which is on the right side as one enters the room.

看Furthermore, when he returned to the room at the end of the investigation, Todd did feel something in the area where the camcorder was set up.看 He cannot explain the feeling that was going up and down his back, but he felt a definite presence.

Kieran had the pleasure of investigating, with a digital camera and hand-held digital video camera the basement, 1st. 2nd., 3rd., and 4th. floor hallways, staircases, and main lobby. He also took EMF and temperature readings of those area.

According to Kieran, he did not know that the 4th. floor was open and being used. In fact, any information he found before the investigation noted that the 4th. floor was being used as storage.看 He did EMF and temperature readings (hallways were 81). When he first exited the elevator, Kieran caught a quick faint smell of a building fire. This happened 3 times to him within 5 minutes. A few minutes later, one of the women that were working the front desk told Kieran that, when she first stated working at the inn, she would smell something burning (like a structure fire) and then the smell would leave. She also stated that the 4th. floor did have a fire some years ago.

Todd and Kieran were drawn to the lobby. There was an EMF reading of 5 to 6 mG in the lobby area. The temperature reading was not consistent because of the air conditioning and the front door opening, but the temperature was much lower on the 4th. floor than downstairs.

After leaving the Inn, the four investigators continued to feel otherworldly presences, and continued to photograph the Inn from the outside.看 The picture-taking was not in vain, as many orbs appeared on most of the photos.

The members of PIP heartily thank David Drury and the Inn's staff for welcoming them to this fine Inn in order to conduct an investigation that they will never forget.看 Those who decide to enjoy all that the Inn has to offer might get more than their money's worth, and receive a visit from看 a VIP or two from the past.看 PIP has determined that the beautiful Inn at Jim Thorpe is very haunted, but by benevolent beings.

FYI:看 Kieran later found the following information :看 The Inn at Jim Thorpe, formerly known as the New American Hotel, was built on the foundation of the White Swan Hotel, which burned to the ground in the late 1840's. This New Orleans style grand hotel sits in the center of Jim Thorpe's historic district, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The hotel was purchased by its current owners in 1988 and brought back to life, coinciding with the rebirth of this unique and historic mountain village.
