The Martin House Investigation
During Diane and Kieran's trip to Cape Cod, September 2006, they visited Provincetown's historic Martin House for dinner, well aware of the site’Äôs reputation for being haunted. The house, which served as a "snug harbor" for escaped slaves during the abolition movement, supposedly houses the ghosts of former slaves and a sea captain.
While the two dined and chatted with a couple at the neighboring table, Kieran was overcome with a feeling that there was an unseen presence to his left. Unable to contain his curiosity any longer, he rose from the table and looked behind the partition to his left. He later learned that that was the space which had been used as the snug harbor.
At the end of the meal, Kieran mentioned to the server, Myra, that he and Diane are paranormal investigators. Without skipping a beat, Myra directed Diane and Kieran to speak with the owner, Tony, who has had many paranormal experiences while in the house. Tony was unavailable; however, Rick, who was tending bar, eagerly shared stories -- Tony's and his own -- of ghost sightings in the home.
According to Rick, Tony has seen the little slave girl and the captain. Tony's face, in fact, is always touched by the little girl, who roams the 2nd and 3rd floors of the Martin House. Rick once saw a fog (probably ectomist) form in front of the fireplace. There was no fire burning and nothing that would have caused smoke to appear.
As Diane and Kieran were about to exit the house after thanking Rick and Myra for their hospitality, Rick surprised them by inviting them to investigate the upstairs rooms.
Kieran was armed with a camera, and the two wasted no time ascending the stairs leading to the allegedly haunted rooms.
Diane sat in a chair and, as she relaxed, she felt a sudden chill on the right side of her body. She also felt someone brush against her head. She told Kieran, who started to take pictures of Diane and the area surrounding her. When inspecting them later that night, they spotted an orb in one of those photos. But that’Äôs not all . . .
Kieran opened the door to the third floor, took a picture of the stairs leading to the upper level and, after doing so, a light went on and off upstairs. The room was not occupied!
Diane and Kieran wish to thank Myra and Rick of the Martin House for their hospitality and willingness to share the experiences of those who have encountered the ghosts who remain at the classic 18th century, three-quarter cape which faces the harbor. Furthermore, they wish to express their great satisfaction with the atmosphere and the food. Diane, who is a vegan, was particularly happy with the five-spice tofu and asparagus that she ordered. Delicious!
